About Sandra Moffatt

As a first-generation Canadian, I was fascinated to find my Italian ancestry in 1984. It lit a fire in me to find all my ancestors on both my own side and that of my husband who’s descended from Scottish, English and French Canadian ancestors.

After almost 30 years of amateur research, I enrolled and graduated with a Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies (PLCGS) with honours from the National Institute for Genealogical Studies (affiliated with the University of Toronto) in 2012, specializing in Scottish and English ancestry.

I’m a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG), SoG (of Scotland), the Ontario Genealogical Society, several provincial family history organizations and even more organizations overseas. My years of research have connected me to experts from all over the world who’ve collaborated with me to find the information I need for my clients.

In 2021, I was nominated and elected as the genealogist for Clan Donald of Canada. My husband’s family are direct descendants of the Macdonalds of Boisdale whose family history goes back over a thousand years.

I’ve written and been published in Families magazine (OGS) and I have a personal blog site – Ties that Bind.

It’s always been my passion to find that missing family history that clients are looking for. I thrive on the detective aspect and love being able to share my discoveries with my clients!

In order to get the best access to information for my clients, I subscribe to many archives, databases, repositories, societies and newspaper archives. Being trilingual (English, Italian and French) has helped me tremendously in my research.

I look forward to being able to help you discover your family history and uncover stories that you can pass on to future generations.
